Better When He’s Bad? Oh, he’s bad alright! Check out my 4.5 star review of the first book in Jay Crownover’s new series WELCOME TO THE POINT, and enter the giveaway!
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jay Crownover returns with a heart-stopping new series… Welcome to the Point.
There’s a difference between a bad boy and a boy who’s bad . . . meet Shane Baxter.
Sexy, dark, and dangerous, Bax isn’t just from the wrong side of the tracks, he is the wrong side of the tracks. A criminal, a thug, and a brawler, he’s the master of bad choices, until one such choice landed him in prison for five years. Now Bax is out and looking for answers, and he doesn’t care what he has to do or who he has to hurt to get them. But there’s a new player in the game, and she’s much too innocent, much too soft…and standing directly in his way.
Dovie Pryce knows all about living a hard life and the tough choices that come with it. She’s always tried to be good, tried to help others, and tried not to let the darkness pull her down. But the streets are fighting back, things have gone from bad to worse, and the only person who can help her is the scariest, sexiest, most complicated ex-con The Point has ever produced.
Bax terrifies her, awakening feelings she never thought she’d have for a guy like him. But it doesn’t take Dovie long to realize . . . some boys are just better when they’re bad.
I have always had an intense love of bad boys, and the fact that I have fallen in love with every single one of Jay Crownover’s book boys to date, meant that I just had to read her latest offering into the book world.
I found that this book had a completely different feel to it than the MARKED MEN series, but that didn’t mean that I loved it any less. There was so much that held my attention: learning more about Bax, Dovie the little spitfire, the whole situation with Grady and Benny, and trying to find out just what the hell happened to Race.
I loved all of the mystery surrounding Race. Where was he??? What was he doing??? Is he ok?? My mind was constantly working to try and figure it all out, and I was so engrossed that I completely lost track of all time. Race’s book is most definitely something that I am interested in reading, so bring on book #2!
Dovie was a great character! She was feisty and smart, and unafraid to do or say things that a lot of others would shy away from. In fact, I think that I loved her more than I loved Bax, to be honest. Don’t get me wrong – i do love him, but it took a little while for me to actually feel that connection with his character that I felt with Dovie.
There’s an author note in the beginning of the book that states that Bax isn’t your typical bad boy; he’s a boy that is bad, and oh my, is he! This boy was BAD!!!! He’s lived a life doing bad things for bad people, and it’s no wonder that all that badness caught up with him. But – and yes, there is a but – he wouldn’t be a guy we could fall in love with if he didn’t have a redeeming side, and I swooned so bad (there’s that word again) over this hidden side to him.
Jay Crownover has created a completely different world at the Point, compared to the world of her Marked men. There is absolutely no worry of the two colliding and confusing the reader, and that is the work of a very skilled author. BETTER WHEN HES BAD is a story filled with action, suspense, intrigue, excitement, twists, passion, and a love that will fill your heart. The perfect start to a new series, with characters that I cannot wait to get acquainted with.
