Review – RUSTY NAILED by Alice Clayton

I finally got around to reading the sequel to Wallbanger by Alice Clayton. Have you read Rusty Nailed? Let me know what you think in the comments.

In this sequel to Wallbanger, the second book in the Cocktail series, fan favorites Caroline and Simon negotiate the rollercoaster of their new relationship while house-sitting in San Francisco.

Playing house was never so much fun—or so confusing. With her boss on her honeymoon, Caroline’s working crazy long hours to keep the interior design company running—especially since she’s also the lead designer for the renovation of a gorgeous old hotel on Sausalito. So with her hotshot photographer boyfriend gallivanting all over the world for his job, she and Simon are heavy-duty into “absence makes the heart grow fonder” mode. Neither has any complaints about the great reunion sex, though! Then Simon decides he’s tired of so much travelling, and he’s suddenly home more. A lot more. And wanting Caroline home more, too. Though their friends’ romantic lives provide plenty of welcome distraction, eventually Caroline and Simon have to sort their relationship out. Neither wants “out of sight, out of mind,” but can they create their own happy mid-ground cliché?

USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton delivers another delicious, frothy cocktail of a book, shaking up her characters, stirring in laugh-out-loud humor, and serving sizzling romance straight up!

I have to admit, this one didn’t hook me as well as Wallbanger did, but it sure was good to be back with the gang again! I didn’t realise quite how much I had missed them until I decided to finally pick this one up. It had all the humour and heat that you would expect to find in a novel by Alice Clayton, and let’s not forget Clive the cat.

There’s quite a cocktail of happenings in Rusty Nailed which was great to keep me hanging on and joining Caroline, Simon and their friends on the journey through the sequel to Clayton’s first offering of sexy romance. From secrets revealed, past lovers, weddings, houses, and job changes, there was no shortage of drama and hijinks, but through it all, I found Caroline to be pretty annoying.

Maybe it was down to the direction and speed which certain things were going, I don’t know, but she got on my nerves and even Simon changed in this book. Moving on… Neil and Sophia. Man, I cannot wait to read more about them. Emotions ran high for this pair in Rusty Nailed, and I have to say, I was hoping for some wallbanging action from these two because THEY JUST NEED TO BE TOGETHER!!!

And Clive… A book about Caroline and Simon would not be complete without their feline companion, Clive. I love the one-sided conversations that they each have with him. They never fail to produce a giggle from me, and of course, much like with Wallbanger, the epilogue is all down to Clive. I wouldn’t want it any other way.
