Being young is all about the experiences: the first time you skip school, the first time you fall in love…the first time someone holds a gun to your head.

After being held hostage during a robbery at the local convenience store, seventeen-year-old Edie finds her attitude about life shattered. Unwilling to put up with the snobbery and bullying at her private school, she enrolls at the local public high school, crossing paths with John. The boy who risked his life to save hers.

While Edie’s beginning to run wild, however, John’s just starting to settle down. After years of partying and dealing drugs with his older brother, he’s going straight—getting to class on time, and thinking about the future.

An unlikely bond grows between the two as John keeps Edie out of trouble and helps her broaden her horizons. But when he helps her out with another first—losing her virginity—their friendship gets complicated.

Meanwhile, Edie and John are pulled back into the dangerous world they narrowly escaped. They were lucky to survive the first time, but this time they have more to lose—each other.

I am always game for a Kylie Scott book, and I was really excited when she first announced she would be releasing her first ever YA (Young Adult) novel. As normal, I didn’t read the synopsis or anything else about the book before I started reading, I went in completely blind, knowing only that this was a YA by an author I loved, and I was not disappointed.

In fact, Trust turned out to be even better than I was expecting! It starts off and you are immediately gripped, edge of your seat kinda stuff, and as the book goes on, though I was able to sit back and relax, I just couldn’t stop reading. A real unputdownable read.

It’s been a while since I read a YA book, I find myself liking more mature characters these days, but I loved being with the characters in Trust, seeing them develop and deal with the events of the book, as well as watching friendship blossom into first love… my heart was fit to bursting.

Admittedly, I did find the end to be slightly rushed, and would have liked to see that given a bit more attention, but other than that, I thought Trust was a really fantastic story, and I’d love to see Kylie Scott revisit this world again.
