Review – RACER by Katy Evans

Racer by Katy Evans is live!!! Check out my review and get clicking!!

image

A bad boy with something to prove.
A woman with a mission.
The race of their lives.
The love of a lifetime.

I don’t think his parents expected him to live up to his name—Racer Tate—but once he felt the adrenaline rush behind the wheel, he was addicted.

He’s the fastest, fiercest driver around.

Scouting new talent brings me to his doorstep…
but his smile sends me to my knees.

The sexy, mysterious Racer Tate is not the kind of man a girl like me falls for. He’s secretive, reckless, elusive. But his proximity pushes me beyond reason, and his kiss….

This is our last chance to win, and he is our only hope. I’m supposed to watch him—make sure he doesn’t get into trouble. But it’s an impossible task. And now the one in heart wrenching, toe-curling, soul-crushing trouble is me. Because when your heart belongs to someone, their truths become your own, and their secrets become your salvation…or your curse.

He says he wants me. He says I’m the One. But he also thinks he’ll break my heart, one piece at a time until it’s gone.

image

Remy and Brooke’s little boy is all grown up, and he’s about to win your heart just like his dad did.

When Katy Evans first announced this book, I swear my heart skipped a beat. I’ve wanted this book to happen since Racer was first born into the Real series, and he didn’t disappoint. He was every bit the sweet talking, sexy, irresistible and troubled guy that his dad was, and it’s impossible not to love him.

I really enjoyed this book, it was great to be back in the Real series world, and I loved getting to see Remy and Maverick again, is it possible for them to now be even hotter? And of course Racer was all swoon and oh-so-sexy times.

It was great to almost go back to the beginning, and see just how true the saying “like father like son” is, but also seeing how different. Whereas Remy chose fighting to deal with his demons, Racer lived up to his name and chose racing, which is where he meets Lana, and there blossoms another great Tate love story.

Racer won’t ever be Remy, but he doesn’t need to be. He’s Racer Tate, and you won’t ever forget his name.

When Ellis Earnshaw and Heathan James met as children, they couldn’t have been more different. Ellis was loud and beautiful – all blond hair, bright laughs and smiles. Heathan was dark and brooding, and obsessed with watching things die.

The pair forged an unlikely friendship, unique and strange. Until they were ripped apart by the sick cruelty of others, separated for years, both locked in a perpetual hell.

Eleven years later, Heathan is back for his girl. Back from a place from which he thought there was no return. Back to seek revenge on those who wronged them.

Time has made Heathan’s soul darker, polluted with hatred and the thirst for blood.

Time has made Ellis a shell of her former self, a little girl lost in the vastness of her pain.

As Heathan pulls Ellis out of her mental prison, reviving the essence of who she once was, down the rabbit hole they will go.

With malice in their hearts and vengeance in their veins, they will seek out the ones who hurt and destroyed them.

One at a time.

Each one more deadly than the last.

Tick Tock.

Dark Contemporary Romance. Contains explicit sexual situations, violence, disturbingly sensitive and taboo subjects, offensive language and very mature topics. Recommended for ages 18 and over.

Please note : this is excerpt is unedited and subject to change.

I placed the foot of my cane on the floor and looked to the left. The sound of light breathing came from around the corner. I made to move, but my heart slammed into a fast beat, stopping my feet in their tracks. My nostrils flared as I closed my eyes and tried to suck in deep breaths. I never did this, never had this kind of reaction to anything. Not in eleven years. Not when I was trapped in darkness. Not even when the guards came to “meet the young kid.” Not when we got out—bloodily, savagely, darkly. Especially not when my knife plunged into the guards’ hearts and I watched the life fade from their eyes, the pure fascination of losing one’s life essence occupying my mind.
But this was Dolly. The only person I’d ever given a shit about.
A slick tar pumped through my black heart as I thought of her. She was the blood that gave me life.
I had no idea what state I would find her in. Whether or not her fragile mind had been destroyed. Whether or not her glass heart had been shattered. No hope of salvation.
I had no idea if my only reason for living could be saved. I shook with venomous anger when I let my mind imagine the hell those sadistic cunts would have put her through in my absence. But Chapel’s words rang in my ears . . . Unleash the anger only on those who deserve it. Let it build within your heart like a well swelling with water . . . then unleash hell on those who took your freedom.
Opening my eyes, I breathed through my rage and silently rounded the corner . . . I stopped. There she was, sitting in a chair. I sucked in a breath and heard it rattle in my ears. Her hair. Her hair was pulled back into a long braid, the woven strands falling to her lower back. And she was dressed in black. Long, baggy sleeves covered her arms.
Motherfucking black. Dolly didn’t belong in black. Only color. Blue and white and gold and motherfucking pink.
I edged around the perimeter of the room until I faced her. My heart tore down the center and I had to hold back a loud snarl when I saw her curled up on the seat, a thick blanket over her thin legs and waist as she stared lifelessly out of the window. The window that overlooked the once-manicured lawns, now nothing but high-reaching weeds and too-bushy trees. I looked across at what she was watching, in the direction of what held her so captivated.
My heart was severed completely, the two parts of its flesh repelling the other, trying to escape the rage and pain and fucking consuming darkness.
She was staring at the spot where we used to play as kids. Where she had found me all those years ago, ripping the colorful butterfly apart in my hands. I moved into her line of sight, but her blue eyes didn’t lift to meet mine, just stared through me as though I wasn’t even there. I crouched down and studied her face. Porcelain skin. Full lips. Fucking perfection.
But there was no life left in her.
I had never felt fear before, but I imagined the sinking hole I felt dropping in my stomach was something like it. A sinking feeling that Dolly had gone to a place from which there was no escape, a prisoner in her own mind.
Fragility consumed.
“Dolly darlin,’” I rasped, my voice fucking breaking.
Twenty-one. She was twenty-one and more beautiful than I could ever have imagined.
Perfection.
My living doll.
A strand of hair lay over her face. My fingers clenched and unclenched as I tried to force myself to touch her. But I couldn’t. I hadn’t touched or been touched in years. I didn’t know how to anymore. Allergic to human affection. Repulsed by the degrading feeling of touch.
I . . . I . . . I couldn’t.
As I opened my mouth to speak to Dolly again, a loud gasp sailed through the air behind her. I straightened, gripping my cane, to see a familiar old face appear. I watched, the sinking hole quickly replaced by dark satisfaction as the blood drained from her face. “Good Lord,” she whispered as I smoothed down my black cravat and vest.
I glared at the bitch. Leaning casually on my cane, I said, “More like Lucifer, I would think.” I nodded in her direction “To you, anyhow.”
Mrs. Jenkins swallowed and tried to back out of the room. “Ah-ah,” I tutted and shook my head. She immediately stilled, eyes fixed on mine.
“He . . . Heathan James . . . it’s . . . it’s not possible . . .” she stammered and ran her eyes over me. Every inch of me.
“Rabbit.” The bitch flinched at my correction. “I am Rabbit. The motherfucking White Rabbit. So never fucking utter that peasant name to me again.”
Her skin paled, and her eyes fell to Dolly sitting on the chair. Dolly still hadn’t moved. I shifted my grip on the box I had brought inside, about to hold it out to Mrs. Jenkins when she asked, “How are you here?”
I threw the box across the room. It landed right at her feet. “Dress her.”
“Wh-what?” Mrs. Jenkins asked.
I pointed to the box at her feet. “Dress her. It wasn’t a request.” Mrs. Jenkins shook as she picked up the box and moved to where Dolly sat. Dolly didn’t look at her either. Mrs. Jenkins opened the lid of the box and gasped again.
Her old, wrinkled eyes snapped up to mine. “No—”
Before she had even finished the sentence, I had reached into my pocket and pulled out my knife. I ran the flat side of the blade down my cheek. Slowly. Controlled. Watching her terrified gaze track my every move. “You’d best do as I ask, Mrs. Jenkins. My patience and tolerance for you appear to be at an all-time low.

Review – TRUST by Kylie Scott

Check out my review of TRUST by Kylie Scott!

Being young is all about the experiences: the first time you skip school, the first time you fall in love…the first time someone holds a gun to your head.

After being held hostage during a robbery at the local convenience store, seventeen-year-old Edie finds her attitude about life shattered. Unwilling to put up with the snobbery and bullying at her private school, she enrolls at the local public high school, crossing paths with John. The boy who risked his life to save hers.

While Edie’s beginning to run wild, however, John’s just starting to settle down. After years of partying and dealing drugs with his older brother, he’s going straight—getting to class on time, and thinking about the future.

An unlikely bond grows between the two as John keeps Edie out of trouble and helps her broaden her horizons. But when he helps her out with another first—losing her virginity—their friendship gets complicated.

Meanwhile, Edie and John are pulled back into the dangerous world they narrowly escaped. They were lucky to survive the first time, but this time they have more to lose—each other.

I am always game for a Kylie Scott book, and I was really excited when she first announced she would be releasing her first ever YA (Young Adult) novel. As normal, I didn’t read the synopsis or anything else about the book before I started reading, I went in completely blind, knowing only that this was a YA by an author I loved, and I was not disappointed.

In fact, Trust turned out to be even better than I was expecting! It starts off and you are immediately gripped, edge of your seat kinda stuff, and as the book goes on, though I was able to sit back and relax, I just couldn’t stop reading. A real unputdownable read.

It’s been a while since I read a YA book, I find myself liking more mature characters these days, but I loved being with the characters in Trust, seeing them develop and deal with the events of the book, as well as watching friendship blossom into first love… my heart was fit to bursting.

Admittedly, I did find the end to be slightly rushed, and would have liked to see that given a bit more attention, but other than that, I thought Trust was a really fantastic story, and I’d love to see Kylie Scott revisit this world again.

Review – THE IRON TIARA by Beth Flynn

More Beth Flynn!! I became obsessed with this author after finding her Nine Minutes series, and now she’s back with a spin off about one of my favourite secondary characters, Anthony Bear! Enjoy!!

image

Anthony Bear and Christy Chapman are from two completely different worlds.

Anthony’s the leader of a motorcycle gang that terrorizes Florida’s West Coast. As a child, he ran away from his family and the Cherokee Indian Reservation to enter a life of crime. As an adult, he leads a multifaceted life managing his two businesses—his legitimate landscaping venture, and his loan shark and underworld dealings. Driven by anger and betrayal, Anthony begins the hunt for Christy’s father, Van Chapman, after he runs out on a loan.

Christy’s privileged life is not as it seems. She has kept painful family secrets and hidden some of her own. She’s determined to find out the truth and expose Van, but her search delivers her right into Anthony Bear’s hands, adding kidnapping to his list of crimes.

Their worlds are as contrasting as the color of their skin. The only thing they seem to have in common is their mutual disdain for Van Chapman…and each other.

They couldn’t be more wrong.

*The Iron Tiara is a spin-off novel from The Minutes Trilogy. It can be read as a standalone, and does not contain a cliffhanger.*

image

Oh how good it felt to be back in a world created by Beth Flynn!! She is one of my Ultimate Authors and I was absolutely desperate to get my hands on Anthony Bear’s story. We first met him in the Nine Minutes series (though you don’t need to have read this series first to enjoy The Iron Tiara, you would be missing out on an incredible story, seriously, it’s one of my favourite ever!!) and I was beside myself with excitement when Beth first announced she was writing his story.

We knew snippets of Anthony and Christy’s life from Nine Minutes, but it was so good to see it all happen in real time in this book. I loved Christy, I thought she was such a strong and resilient character, even after everything she had been through. And Anthony may have been a scary dude, but boy was he swoonworthy. I loved how hard he loved his family, and the respect he had for those he cared about.

And speaking of… we saw Grizz and Kit!!!!! I nearly combust with excitement every time Grizz was around (I feel like he might just be the literary love of my life), and I am desperate to see more from Anthony’s right hand man, X, and his love interest (I won’t spoil who it is but all the excites there!!). Of course, I’ve still got my fingers tightly crossed for a Christian and Mimi book, but I’m more than willing to take anything that this amazing author dishes up.

So, Beth Flynn, whatever’s next…bring it on!!!

Review – THE RED by Tiffany Reisz

The Queen of Kink is back! Check out The Red, by Tiffany Reisz now!

the red

image

Mona Lisa St. James made a deathbed promise that she would do anything to save her mother’s art gallery. Unfortunately, not only is The Red painted red, but it’s in the red. She soon realizes she has no choice but to sell it.

Just as she realizes she has no choice but to sell it, a mysterious man comes in after closing time and makes her an offer: He will save The Red if she agrees to submit to him for the period of one year.

The man is handsome, English, and terribly tempting…but surely her mother didn’t mean for Mona to sell herself to a stranger. Then again, she did promise to do anything to save The Red…

The Red is a standalone novel of erotic fantasy from Tiffany Reisz, international bestselling author of The Bourbon Thief and the Original Sinners series.

image

When you dive into a Tiffany Reisz book, you quickly learn you will be getting a book filled with clever writing, an engaging storyline, and lots of extreme sexiness. No one writes erotic romance like this author, and The Red has all that and more.

I really enjoyed this story and I instantly became intrigued to know more about these characters, especially the mysterious and downright devilish male lead. To say this book is sexy is an understatement; I was fanning myself on numerous occasions, and the role-play…hot damn. I’ve seen role-play be done many a time, but never (and I mean never) like this.

Just give it a go and witness this kinky twist for yourself, you will not be disappointed! And then that ending…sigh…I had biggest grin on my face!! Another corker of a novel from Tiffany Reisz; I cant wait to see what she brings us next.

Review – TYCOON by Katy Evans

There’s a new Katy Evans book boyfriend in town! It’s time to meet Aaric Christos!

image

He wasn’t always this rich. This hot. This difficult.
Aaric Christos was a guy who protected me. Wanted me. Maybe even loved me.
That man is gone.
In his place is the most powerful real estate tycoon in the city.
He’s a cold, ruthless, aggressive businessman.
The only one who can save me and my startup from ruin.
It takes every ounce of courage to put my pride aside and ask for his help.
I didn’t expect him to offer it easily.
And he doesn’t.
Instead, he vets me harder than he’s vetted anyone.
Don’t invest in what you don’t know, he says.
He’s assessing every piece of me, to the point I’ve never felt so bare.
I yearn for the boy I once knew, whose touch once craved me.
Putting it all on the line will be worth it, I tell myself.
Until I realize—too late—that some risks are not worth taking.

image

I love a good Katy Evans hero!! From the second the nickname “little bit” fell from Aaric Christos’ lips, I was a goner. I completely fell for him in that moment and I knew that Tycoon would be another great read from this fantastic author! Aaric was everything you could love in a book boyfriend; cocky, arrogant, funny, charming, and a whole lot swoonworthy!

Second chance romances are some of my favourites, and as soon as I realised Bryn and Aaric were childhood “friends to almost lovers” (I hadn’t read the synopsis as I like to go in blind), and a reconnection was imminent, I was excited! As soon as they laid eyes on each other after all those years, you could practically see the sparks, feel the chemistry. And boy, did these two have it in abundance. Don’t even get me started on the sex; woah, smoking hot!!!

It wasn’t all sexy times, love and happily ever afters, though. There were more than a few twists and turns, some which will tug at your heartstrings, and others which will have you wanting to slap a bi… well, let’s not go there or Amazon won’t let me post my review. There were side characters I loved, some I hated, and one I loved and then was crazy disappointed in. All of those characters, along with Bryn, Aaric, and their heartbreaking/heartwarming journey, made for a fab read you won’t want to put down. Bring on Sara’s book!!

Review – LOVE IN TRANSIT

Six authors, one blurb, six stories. Check it out!

image

You know those people that have a house full of motivational slogans? Embrace Every Moment, stamped on their coffee mugs. Always Kiss Me Goodnight painted above their perfectly made beds.
I’m not one of those people.
This morning I overslept, then slipped on a stray sock and banged my toe into the nightstand. The elevator in my building broke and I had to run down six flights of stairs. And then my local coffee shop was closed. For health code violations.
What’s that? Not the end of the world? You want me to suck it up?
Did I mention I’m wearing a wedding dress… on the subway?
It’s a Good Day for a Hot Mess. Someone embroider that on a pillow.

image

From the second I first heard about this collection of stories, I knew I needed to read it. Six authors were given the same blurb, and they each had to create their own story from it. I was so excited to see what these authors came up with, and I couldn’t wait to dive in.

The authors were a mix of ones I’d read before, and a few I had yet to read, so I really didn’t know what to expect from some of them, and the biggest surprise for me was that my favourite story came from a new-to-me author! I love, loved loved Ainsley Booth’s story! Toby completely stole my heart and I would love to read more from him. At the end of that story, Ainsley mentions that it was the second book in her series (though about different characters), so I headed straight to Amazon and picked up the other book. That alone shows what a great idea these collections are, readers find new authors, and authors gain new readers!

It wasn’t just Ainsley’s I loved. Jana Aston was up first and it was everything you’d expect from a Jana book, fun, flirty, and fantastic! Kitty French’s book was also the hilarious and sexy ride you would expect from her, until it takes on a very unexpected twist! These stories might all be short but they’re definitely well packed with action and adventure, and let’s not forget a good old helping of romance!

It was great to see how different Jana, Ainsley, Kitty, BJ Harvey, Raine Miller, and Liv Morris’ stories were considering they all shared the same blurb, and I think this is definitely something that could catch on. So if you fancy something a little bit different, want to find some new authors, or revisit some favourites, Love In Transit is definitely the way to go.

Review – WHEN IT’S REAL by Erin Watt

If you have not read this book yet, get cracking!! I loved it!

image

From #1 New York Times bestselling author duo Erin Watt comes the addictive contemporary tale of a teen rock star in need of an image makeover and the teen girl hired to be his fake girlfriend.

Meet Oakley Ford-teen celebrity, renowned pop star, child of famous movie stars, hottie with millions of fangirls… and restless troublemaker. On the surface he has it all, but with his home life disintegrating, his music well suddenly running dry, and the tabloids having a field day over his outrageous exploits, Oakley’s team decides it’s time for an intervention. The result: an image overhaul, complete with a fake girlfriend meant to show the world he’s settled down.

Enter seventeen-year-old Vaughn Bennett-devoted sister, part-time waitress, the definition of “normal.” Under ordinary circumstances she’d never have taken this gig, but with her family strapped for cash, she doesn’t have much of a choice. And for the money Oakley’s team is paying her, she figures she can put up with outlandish Hollywood parties and a team of publicists watching her every move. So what if she thinks Oakley’s a shallow, self-centered jerk? It’s not like they’re going to fall for each other in real life…right?

image

My social media sites are always a buzz of excitement whenever Erin Watt release a book, and yet, for some reason (be it book funks or just life getting in the way) I was still yet to really discover their talent for myself. With the release of When It’s Real fast approaching, I knew this was my chance to change that. A YA rock star and ordinary girl love/hate romance? I’m in!!

When It’s Real had me hooked from the beginning and it didn’t take long for me to understand all the fuss surrounding this writing duo. The ladies behind Erin Watt had me falling in love with Oakley and Vaughn, as well as a mix of the other the other characters such as Vaughn’s sister and twin younger brothers, and Oakley’s security guy. I saw romances blossoming all over and my hopeless romantic heart couldn’t get enough.

I loved how the authors incorporated social media buzz into the story, and I loved the whole love/hate aspect of Oakley’s and Vaughn’s romance. It definitely made for some fun reading. There was definitely more to Oakley than first meets the eye, and I loved seeing Vaughn slowly unravel him and get to the core of what made Oakley who he is. It gave the book a lot of heart and you couldn’t help but feel for the life that the young rocker had lead, and hope that the powerhouse who was suddenly thrust into his life could turn it all around.

It’s safe to say I thoroughly enjoyed my first adventure with Erin Watt, and I will absolutely be diving into both their past and future works. Bring it on!

Review – BUNS by Alice Clayton

The third and hopefully not final book in the Hudson Valley series is out! Check out Archie Bryant’s BUNS! I mean…oh who am I kidding? Enjoy!

image

The third in the hilarious yet sizzling hot Hudson Valley series from New York Time and USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton.

Clara Morgan is living the dream, if you can call rebranding hotels that are desperate for a new life and running any kind of marathon a dream. Which she does. But the career she loves and the endurance races that keep her adrenaline pumping have kept her too busy to put down any roots. Growing up in foster care, she’s never been able to establish traditions of her own, which may be why she’s fascinated by the rituals that generations-old family resorts are known for. She’s especially interested in the Bryant Mountain House, and not just for their secret recipe for the yummy, gooey, can’t-get-enough-of Hot Cross Buns….

Archie Bryant, the man with the Buns, is fifth generation and one-day-owner of the charming yet run-down Bryant Mountain House in Bailey Falls, New York. He’s determined to save his family’s legacy from the wrecking ball the old-fashioned way—by gritting his teeth and doing what needs to be done. There’s no way Archie will be influenced by the new hotel branding expert his father brought in to turn one hundred and fifty years of tradition on its head just to attract a faster, younger, slicker crowd. But when some of Clara’s ideas start bringing in new, paying customers, Archie can’t deny that she may have just given him a shot at keeping his resort open.

It’s sticky, it’s messy, it’s sweet, it’s Buns.

image

It’s official: Alice Clayton books are my happy place. I feel like I’ve been waiting for this book for forever, but let me tell you, it was most definitely worth the wait. What a funny, fabulous, and generally fantastic book this was. I dove heart first into Archie and Clara’s story, barely pausing for breath as the group of characters I’ve come to know and love took me on another addictive and truly heartwarming Bailey Falls adventure.

I was (and still am) completely obsessed with Nuts, and Cream Of The Crop (the first two books in this Hudson Valley series), so I was incredibly excited to have Buns sitting on my Kindle. I was desperate for more Archie and Clara after finishing book two, so I was over the moon when I first found out that the third book would follow them as Clara helps to turn Bryant House around, and not only was it everything I hoped it would be, it was more!

For starters, I just love everything about both Clara and Archie (on their own and together); Clara is Clayton’s signature sassy and fabulous woman, and Archie is like a sexy, sometimes grumpy nerd. And he’s also about 10 years older than her (bonus points for the sexy older man appeal). I loved how stuck in his ways Archie was when it came to changing the hotel. He fought everything he didn’t agree on, and didn’t fall at her feet and offer her everything as soon as they started sleeping together, they still fought over the decisions which I thought was a great touch of authenticity.

I also loved, loved, loved the romance (and the sexy times before the romancing happened). I fell head over heals in love with Archie Bryant, though admittedly, Oscar still holds the majority share of my heart, Archie has himself a nice big chunk of it. And speaking of my tall, dark and sexy man, I loved seeing the rest of the Hudson Valley gang again! I could spend all my days with these guys, and I’m praying this isn’t the last we see of them.

Simply put, this book is a must read!!
