Review – TYCOON by Katy Evans

There’s a new Katy Evans book boyfriend in town! It’s time to meet Aaric Christos!

image

He wasn’t always this rich. This hot. This difficult.
Aaric Christos was a guy who protected me. Wanted me. Maybe even loved me.
That man is gone.
In his place is the most powerful real estate tycoon in the city.
He’s a cold, ruthless, aggressive businessman.
The only one who can save me and my startup from ruin.
It takes every ounce of courage to put my pride aside and ask for his help.
I didn’t expect him to offer it easily.
And he doesn’t.
Instead, he vets me harder than he’s vetted anyone.
Don’t invest in what you don’t know, he says.
He’s assessing every piece of me, to the point I’ve never felt so bare.
I yearn for the boy I once knew, whose touch once craved me.
Putting it all on the line will be worth it, I tell myself.
Until I realize—too late—that some risks are not worth taking.

image

I love a good Katy Evans hero!! From the second the nickname “little bit” fell from Aaric Christos’ lips, I was a goner. I completely fell for him in that moment and I knew that Tycoon would be another great read from this fantastic author! Aaric was everything you could love in a book boyfriend; cocky, arrogant, funny, charming, and a whole lot swoonworthy!

Second chance romances are some of my favourites, and as soon as I realised Bryn and Aaric were childhood “friends to almost lovers” (I hadn’t read the synopsis as I like to go in blind), and a reconnection was imminent, I was excited! As soon as they laid eyes on each other after all those years, you could practically see the sparks, feel the chemistry. And boy, did these two have it in abundance. Don’t even get me started on the sex; woah, smoking hot!!!

It wasn’t all sexy times, love and happily ever afters, though. There were more than a few twists and turns, some which will tug at your heartstrings, and others which will have you wanting to slap a bi… well, let’s not go there or Amazon won’t let me post my review. There were side characters I loved, some I hated, and one I loved and then was crazy disappointed in. All of those characters, along with Bryn, Aaric, and their heartbreaking/heartwarming journey, made for a fab read you won’t want to put down. Bring on Sara’s book!!

Review – LOVE IN TRANSIT

Six authors, one blurb, six stories. Check it out!

image

You know those people that have a house full of motivational slogans? Embrace Every Moment, stamped on their coffee mugs. Always Kiss Me Goodnight painted above their perfectly made beds.
I’m not one of those people.
This morning I overslept, then slipped on a stray sock and banged my toe into the nightstand. The elevator in my building broke and I had to run down six flights of stairs. And then my local coffee shop was closed. For health code violations.
What’s that? Not the end of the world? You want me to suck it up?
Did I mention I’m wearing a wedding dress… on the subway?
It’s a Good Day for a Hot Mess. Someone embroider that on a pillow.

image

From the second I first heard about this collection of stories, I knew I needed to read it. Six authors were given the same blurb, and they each had to create their own story from it. I was so excited to see what these authors came up with, and I couldn’t wait to dive in.

The authors were a mix of ones I’d read before, and a few I had yet to read, so I really didn’t know what to expect from some of them, and the biggest surprise for me was that my favourite story came from a new-to-me author! I love, loved loved Ainsley Booth’s story! Toby completely stole my heart and I would love to read more from him. At the end of that story, Ainsley mentions that it was the second book in her series (though about different characters), so I headed straight to Amazon and picked up the other book. That alone shows what a great idea these collections are, readers find new authors, and authors gain new readers!

It wasn’t just Ainsley’s I loved. Jana Aston was up first and it was everything you’d expect from a Jana book, fun, flirty, and fantastic! Kitty French’s book was also the hilarious and sexy ride you would expect from her, until it takes on a very unexpected twist! These stories might all be short but they’re definitely well packed with action and adventure, and let’s not forget a good old helping of romance!

It was great to see how different Jana, Ainsley, Kitty, BJ Harvey, Raine Miller, and Liv Morris’ stories were considering they all shared the same blurb, and I think this is definitely something that could catch on. So if you fancy something a little bit different, want to find some new authors, or revisit some favourites, Love In Transit is definitely the way to go.

Review – WHEN IT’S REAL by Erin Watt

If you have not read this book yet, get cracking!! I loved it!

image

From #1 New York Times bestselling author duo Erin Watt comes the addictive contemporary tale of a teen rock star in need of an image makeover and the teen girl hired to be his fake girlfriend.

Meet Oakley Ford-teen celebrity, renowned pop star, child of famous movie stars, hottie with millions of fangirls… and restless troublemaker. On the surface he has it all, but with his home life disintegrating, his music well suddenly running dry, and the tabloids having a field day over his outrageous exploits, Oakley’s team decides it’s time for an intervention. The result: an image overhaul, complete with a fake girlfriend meant to show the world he’s settled down.

Enter seventeen-year-old Vaughn Bennett-devoted sister, part-time waitress, the definition of “normal.” Under ordinary circumstances she’d never have taken this gig, but with her family strapped for cash, she doesn’t have much of a choice. And for the money Oakley’s team is paying her, she figures she can put up with outlandish Hollywood parties and a team of publicists watching her every move. So what if she thinks Oakley’s a shallow, self-centered jerk? It’s not like they’re going to fall for each other in real life…right?

image

My social media sites are always a buzz of excitement whenever Erin Watt release a book, and yet, for some reason (be it book funks or just life getting in the way) I was still yet to really discover their talent for myself. With the release of When It’s Real fast approaching, I knew this was my chance to change that. A YA rock star and ordinary girl love/hate romance? I’m in!!

When It’s Real had me hooked from the beginning and it didn’t take long for me to understand all the fuss surrounding this writing duo. The ladies behind Erin Watt had me falling in love with Oakley and Vaughn, as well as a mix of the other the other characters such as Vaughn’s sister and twin younger brothers, and Oakley’s security guy. I saw romances blossoming all over and my hopeless romantic heart couldn’t get enough.

I loved how the authors incorporated social media buzz into the story, and I loved the whole love/hate aspect of Oakley’s and Vaughn’s romance. It definitely made for some fun reading. There was definitely more to Oakley than first meets the eye, and I loved seeing Vaughn slowly unravel him and get to the core of what made Oakley who he is. It gave the book a lot of heart and you couldn’t help but feel for the life that the young rocker had lead, and hope that the powerhouse who was suddenly thrust into his life could turn it all around.

It’s safe to say I thoroughly enjoyed my first adventure with Erin Watt, and I will absolutely be diving into both their past and future works. Bring it on!

Review – BUNS by Alice Clayton

The third and hopefully not final book in the Hudson Valley series is out! Check out Archie Bryant’s BUNS! I mean…oh who am I kidding? Enjoy!

image

The third in the hilarious yet sizzling hot Hudson Valley series from New York Time and USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton.

Clara Morgan is living the dream, if you can call rebranding hotels that are desperate for a new life and running any kind of marathon a dream. Which she does. But the career she loves and the endurance races that keep her adrenaline pumping have kept her too busy to put down any roots. Growing up in foster care, she’s never been able to establish traditions of her own, which may be why she’s fascinated by the rituals that generations-old family resorts are known for. She’s especially interested in the Bryant Mountain House, and not just for their secret recipe for the yummy, gooey, can’t-get-enough-of Hot Cross Buns….

Archie Bryant, the man with the Buns, is fifth generation and one-day-owner of the charming yet run-down Bryant Mountain House in Bailey Falls, New York. He’s determined to save his family’s legacy from the wrecking ball the old-fashioned way—by gritting his teeth and doing what needs to be done. There’s no way Archie will be influenced by the new hotel branding expert his father brought in to turn one hundred and fifty years of tradition on its head just to attract a faster, younger, slicker crowd. But when some of Clara’s ideas start bringing in new, paying customers, Archie can’t deny that she may have just given him a shot at keeping his resort open.

It’s sticky, it’s messy, it’s sweet, it’s Buns.

image

It’s official: Alice Clayton books are my happy place. I feel like I’ve been waiting for this book for forever, but let me tell you, it was most definitely worth the wait. What a funny, fabulous, and generally fantastic book this was. I dove heart first into Archie and Clara’s story, barely pausing for breath as the group of characters I’ve come to know and love took me on another addictive and truly heartwarming Bailey Falls adventure.

I was (and still am) completely obsessed with Nuts, and Cream Of The Crop (the first two books in this Hudson Valley series), so I was incredibly excited to have Buns sitting on my Kindle. I was desperate for more Archie and Clara after finishing book two, so I was over the moon when I first found out that the third book would follow them as Clara helps to turn Bryant House around, and not only was it everything I hoped it would be, it was more!

For starters, I just love everything about both Clara and Archie (on their own and together); Clara is Clayton’s signature sassy and fabulous woman, and Archie is like a sexy, sometimes grumpy nerd. And he’s also about 10 years older than her (bonus points for the sexy older man appeal). I loved how stuck in his ways Archie was when it came to changing the hotel. He fought everything he didn’t agree on, and didn’t fall at her feet and offer her everything as soon as they started sleeping together, they still fought over the decisions which I thought was a great touch of authenticity.

I also loved, loved, loved the romance (and the sexy times before the romancing happened). I fell head over heals in love with Archie Bryant, though admittedly, Oscar still holds the majority share of my heart, Archie has himself a nice big chunk of it. And speaking of my tall, dark and sexy man, I loved seeing the rest of the Hudson Valley gang again! I could spend all my days with these guys, and I’m praying this isn’t the last we see of them.

Simply put, this book is a must read!!

I am a real life villain, truly. I drink sick amounts of Starbucks. Most of the time my hair smells like coffee. I was born in South Africa, and lived there for most of my childhood. I moved to Seattle just for the rain. Rome is my favorite place in the world so far, Paris comes in at a close second. I read and write more than I sleep. When I was eleven, I wrote an entire novel about runaway orphans, using only purple ink. I am addicted to Florence and the Machine and will travel to see concerts. I love scary movies and giraffes. I spend way too much time on Facebook. Meet you there?…

Review – SPARK IN THE ASHES by Nikki Groom

The first book in Nikki Groom’s Steel Souls MC series is now LIVE!! Don’t miss out on this fantastic ride (lame pun intended).

spark in the ashes

image

Sadie Foster is consumed with revenge. The quiet beauty she portrays on the outside disguises the rage bubbling within her. Because on the inside, her desire for retribution dominates her every waking thought, until him……

Ramsey Dalton is an outlaw. A criminal that will do whatever it takes to get what he wants and to keep his MC brothers safe. He didn’t know there could be more to his life than sex, drugs and death, until her…

Their meeting is pure chance. Their connection undeniable. But what neither of them know, is that their relationship threatens to uncover far more than they could have imagined.

Secrets and lies are best left buried, but sometimes they’re too real to stay dead.

(Book 1 of 2)

image

I love MC books, so I always get a mix of excited and nervous when I see a new one. Excited in case I love it, but nervous because what if I don’t… I hadn’t previously read anything by Nikki Groom so I new nothing of her writing style, but she definitely had me wanting to check out her other works after Spark In The Ashes.

The first chapter instantly draws you in. It’s drama from the get go and it leaves you wanting more. Needing to know what happened to lead up to that point, and more importantly, what would happen next. I also loved that we got to meet both of our main characters in the first chapter, and they’re both badass.

Sadie, our female lead, was kicking ass and taking names from the very beginning, and Ramsey, our male lead and VP of the Steel Souls MC, was everything I love to see in a book boyfriend. I loved reading about this couple and seeing how their story unfolded. And that ending… oh, man. All I’m going to say on that matter is bring on book 2!!

Review – TWIST by Kylie Scott

The second book in Kylie Scott’s Dive Bar series is LIVE and 5 star perfection! You need to meet Joe!

twist

image

When his younger brother loses interest in online dating, hot, bearded, bartender extraordinaire, Joe Collins, only intends to log into his account and shut it down. Until he reads about her.

Alex Parks is funny, friendly, and pretty much everything he’s been looking for in a woman. And in no time at all they’re emailing up a storm, telling each other their deepest darkest secrets… apart from the one that really matters.

And when it comes to love, serving it straight up works better than with a twist.

image

Full disclosure: I didn’t love the first book in this series. In fact, I DNF’d it. Whether it was the book, me, or the wicked book funk I was trapped in, I don’t know. But I do know that after reading Twist, I absolutely want to dive back into the first book in the Dive Bar series.

Twist was everything I love about Kylie Scott books and more! I completely fell head over heels in love with Joe. And what’s not to love? Tall, rugged, bearded, works with his hands… dreamy!!! There wasn’t anything I disliked about him. What I loved most was how he was with Alex…

Again, can I say “dreamy?” *sigh* Also hilarious. Alex and Joe have some serious banter going on, and I loved their insults towards each other. I laughed out loud so many times while reading and I thought they had such great chemistry.

And the end of the book…OMG I fangirled like crazy in the final scenes. It was the most perfect ending to a fantastically addictive book. I cannot wait for the third book, Chaser, to release later on in 2017.

Review – SHADE’S LADY by Joanna Wylde

Joanna Wylde is back with the Reaper’s MC, and I could not be happier! Check out my review of Shade’s Lady below.

image

New York Times bestselling author Joanna Wylde returns to the world of the Reapers Motorcycle Club…

Looking back, none of this would’ve happened if I hadn’t dropped my phone in the toilet. I mean, I could’ve walked away from him if I’d had it with me.

Or maybe not.

Maybe it was all over the first time he saw me, and he would’ve found another way. Probably—if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that Shade always gets what he wants, and apparently he wanted me.

Right from the first.

image

It has to be said that the Reaper’s series is one of my favourites and I was so excited when Joanna Wylde announced she was participating in 1001 Dark Nights. Not only would we get more Reaper’s, but we finally get to know the man behind it all; the president of the whole Reaper crew, Shade.

Throughout the Reaper series we’ve met Shade, but never really got to know him properly because he’s not based in the chapter of the MC that is led by Picnic. So I was definitely excited to finally get a real look at this biker, and of course to see him fall in love ( because who doesn’t love it when a big bad biker loses his heart?).

Straight away I was hooked into Shade’s Lady and I was instantly rooting for the characters to get together and have a HEA (what can I say? I’m a hopeless romantic) and I’m not going to lie, I was giddy when they first met and I loved every interaction between them.

There was everything I love about the Reaper’s, all packed into this 200 page novella, and as per usual with this series, I’m now desperate for the next book! Bring it on!!

Review – WICKED WOLF by Nazarea Andrews

Book #3 in the Dirty Happily Ever After series is now live!! Check out my review of Wicked Wolf below, and get clicking!

image

Charles “Wolf” Blackwood likes the game. He likes chasing a new girl every week, loves seducing them and earning their trust. He doesn’t like to keep them.

But Scarlet is different–she always has been.

The chase has never been quite as intoxicating as it is with her, the feisty sub with an innocent streak a mile wide. He wants to keep her, but Scarlet already has a Dom, and Hunter has no intentions of giving her up.

But Wolf is in for a surprise when he realizes Scarlet doesn’t want one of them. She’s playing to keep them both.

image

It’s no secret that I love books by Nazarea Andrews, and this serial was definitely one of my biggest not-so-dirty-pleasures of 2017. I loved the quick and sexy reads, and each book got better as the series went on, with Wolf taking over my heart by the end of this third and maybe-not-so-final book. Yes, that’s right, the very intriguing Mal will eventually be getting his own book *dances*

One of the things I love most about this series is that I went into each book thinking I knew exactly how the book would go. But every time it went in the complete opposite direction. That’s always the sign of a talented author if you ask me. I can usually always tell what will happen in a book, and figure out the twists in advanced, but Charming, Beast, and Wolf all caught me off guard.

As always, I won’t go into specifics so as not to post any spoilers, but Wolf’s romance definitely isn’t a conventional one, though it is one that completely captured my heart. I loved seeing it develop and flourish, and now I find myself missing the characters, and I cant wait until we get to see more from them in Mal’s book.
