Review – VELOCITY by AB Bloom

The sequel to AB Bloom’s first YA paranormal romance is now out and it’s just as fantastic as the first! Check out my review of Velocity, below!

image

Life for sixteen-year-old Bronte Bell has fallen apart around her—the man who raised her as his own is the enemy, the boy she loves is a Star, and her high school nemesis is her sister, and the other last star child. Life for Bronte couldn’t get much more complicated.

Except, she can’t remember a thing.

Willing to do whatever it takes to protect her; the Stars have secreted Bronte away in a glamoured life; one where she’s just a normal teenager with normal teenager problems. But piece by piece, and with the help of an unlikely ally, the truth unravels as the pull between Bronte and Nick refuses to extinguish. Only Nick has a secret—one that could change everything.
Will the fate of destiny fall with the full force of velocity?

image

“My pull towards you is like gravity with the full force of velocity weighing it down.”

Boy oh boy. A. B. Bloom is back with the sequel to her YA Fantasy novel, Gravity, and fans of the series will not be disappointed! Velocity is filled with a fantastic storyline, great characters, secrets, twists, and a gorgeous romance to boot!

I absolutely loved everything about this book, especially the romance between Nick and Bronte. And not just their present tense romance; we get a series of flashbacks of Nick and his soulmate throughout the years, and I swear I had stars in my eyes as I read about them. AB Bloom would be a master of historical romance!

And then all those twists and turns? And that ending? Gah!! Who will Bronte trust in the third and final book in the series? I cannot wait to find out when it releases later this year.

Cover Reveal – BUNS by Alice Clayton

I am obsessed with this series by Alice Clayton, and Buns is one of my most anticipated reads of 2017. Check out this amazing cover (hello there!!!) and make sure you’ve pre-ordered!

image

The third in the hilarious yet sizzling hot Hudson Valley series from New York Time and USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton.

Clara Morgan is living the dream, if you can call rebranding hotels that are desperate for a new life and running any kind of marathon a dream. Which she does. But the career she loves and the endurance races that keep her adrenaline pumping have kept her too busy to put down any roots. Growing up in foster care, she’s never been able to establish traditions of her own, which may be why she’s fascinated by the rituals that generations-old family resorts are known for. She’s especially interested in the Bryant Mountain House, and not just for their secret recipe for the yummy, gooey, can’t-get-enough-of Hot Cross Buns….

Archie Bryant, the man with the Buns, is fifth generation and one-day-owner of the charming yet run-down Bryant Mountain House in Bailey Falls, New York. He’s determined to save his family’s legacy from the wrecking ball the old-fashioned way—by gritting his teeth and doing what needs to be done. There’s no way Archie will be influenced by the new hotel branding expert his father brought in to turn one hundred and fifty years of tradition on its head just to attract a faster, younger, slicker crowd. But when some of Clara’s ideas start bringing in new, paying customers, Archie can’t deny that she may have just given him a shot at keeping his resort open.

It’s sticky, it’s messy, it’s sweet, it’s Buns.

Review – WICKED BEAST by Nazarea Andrews

Book #2 in the Wicked Ever After series is now live!! Check out my review of Wicked Beast #2 below, and don’t forget that book #3 releases on Monday!

image

James “Beast” Lutz isn’t like his friends.
He doesn’t crave control the way Charm and Mal do, and he doesn’t play the games Wolf thrives on.
He lives on his knees, all of his strength bent to the will of his Domme.
He’s never regretted that, until now.
Now, when he’s trapped in an arrangement serving a Domme who can’t keep a sub.
Now, when he’s not sure how to trust a woman wrapped in mystery and less sure he wants to.
But the more he gets to know the Domme everyone knows as Beauty, the more Beast realizes everything he thought he knew was wrong.

image

As I read book #1 in this serial, I was intrigued to know more about Beast and Beauty’s stories, and I loved what we got from them in Wicked Beast. It was a lot darker than Wicked Charming was. It definitely wasn’t a sunshine and roses story, but that didn’t make it any less beautiful. In fact, I loved it more than Charming’s story.

I think it’s impossible to not like Beast as soon as you meet him, and Beauty reminded me of a female version of Christian Grey. She was closed off, dominant, kinda broken, hiding from the world, and unsure and unconfident when it came to giving any part of herself to someone else.

The first half of this book for me was a 3 star read, it was when the cracks started show and we saw the first hints at a love story that I became truly invested. I loved how it didn’t happen all at once. It was a slow build romance and you could almost feel Beauty’s resistance and maybe even fear at the prospect of letting down her shield, of taking off her mask.

I completely fell in love with Beast and Beauty, and I really hope we see more from them again. Bring on Wolf!

Review – DEFY by LJ Shen

Some of you may have read Vicious (book #1 in the Sinners of Saint series) by LJ Shen (if you haven’t, don’t worry, I hadn’t either) well did you see there’s now a prequel novella??? You guys! I loved it!! Check out everything you need to know below.

image

Defy is a smutty, insta-love, insta-lust short novella. Defy is a prequel to Vicious (Sinners of Saint #1). It is recommended, but unnecessary, to read Defy before reading Vicious.

First included in Hot for Teacher Anthology: 19 Stories Filled with Lust and Love.

My name is Melody Greene, and I have a confession to make.
I slept with my student, a senior in high school.
Multiple times.
I had multiple orgasms.
In multiple positions.
I slept with my student and I enjoyed it.
I slept with my student and I’d do it all over again if I could turn back time.
My name is Melody Greene, and I got kicked out of my position as a teacher and did my walk of shame a la Cersei Lannister from the principal’s office, minutes after said principal threatened to call the cops on me.
My name is Melody Greene, and I did something bad because it made me feel good.
Here is why it was totally worth it.

image

You guys!!! Have you read this book yet?? It was my first book by LJ Shen and now I need to read them all!! Sorry for the overuse of exclamation marks but I’m so excited by how much I loved this book.

Defy was a short read but by no means was it lacking. I started late one night and read into the early hours of the morning. I just couldn’t get enough! It was sexy (oh my word, was it sexy!) it was intriguing and it was addictive!

As soon as I finished I went to Amazon and bought the first novel in this series, Vicious, (because I need more from all these characters and Vicious was probably the one I wanted to know most about) and I can’t wait to dive in!!

LJ Shen shot straight up my list of favourite authors with Defy, and I’ll definitely be reading more from her in the future.

Review – WICKED CHARMING by Nazarea Andrews

Are you ready for a sexy new serial retelling from Nazarea Andrews? Because I am!! Book 1 is out now with book 2 following on Feb 20th, and book 3 on Feb 27th. Check out my review of Wicked Charming #1 below.

image

He’s at the top of the world.
He’s rich, sought after, and in control.
And he’s bored.
A string of one-night stands have left Samul Charming increasingly dissatisfied. When his mother pushes him to settle down, his best friends come up with a brilliant plan:
Audition the submissive at The Kingdom.
The problem is, Charm knows who he wants: the only girl to challenge him, while submitting as naturally as breathing.
But he can’t have her.
With the entire club watching and his parents expecting him to settle down, Charm decides to settle.
But love in the Kingdom is never simple and it is never painless.
And Charm is about to be reminded of that.

image

When I first heard about this new serial, I didn’t know anything about it other than it was a retelling, and hello, it’s by Nazarea Andrews, gimme gimme!! I’ve read her retellings before and they are truly fantastic so there was no way I’d go without reading this new series.

Wicked Charming kicks off our first Dirty Happily Ever After at The Kingdom with Charming, a wealthy future CEO and part owner of sex club The Kingdom. What a great twist on a classic this was!!

I loved reading Charming’s tale. Loved the Dominant and submissive rolls played out at The Kingdom (who knew fairytales could be so dirty!!) though I think Charming and his Queen didn’t always quite play the part as well as Doms and subs usually do in erotic books.

We also get to know Beast and Wolf from the future books in the series! I loved Beast’s character and can’t wait to see more from him (again, another great spin on a classic) and I don’t really have an opinion on Wolf yet (I’m hoping we get to see more of him in book #2). Another intriguing character is Mal. I kept trying to work out his link to a fairytale and now I wonder if he will also get his own book at some point. I definitely want to see more from him.

At only 99c each and a week between books, there’s no excuse not to dive into this sexy fairytale by Nazarea Andrews.

Review – HISTORY IS ALL YOU LEFT ME by Adam Silvera

Six stars, you guys!! Six stars!!!

image

You’re still alive in alternate universes, Theo, but I live in the real world where this morning you’re having an open casket funeral. I know you’re out there, listening. And you should know I’m really pissed because you swore you would never die and yet here we are. It hurts even more because this isn’t the first promise you’ve broken.

OCD-afflicted seventeen-year-old, Griffin, has just lost his first love – his best friend, ex-boyfriend and the boy he believed to be his ultimate life partner – in a drowning accident. In a desperate attempt to hold onto every last piece of the past, a broken Griffin forges a friendship with Theo’s new college boyfriend, Jackson. And Griffin will stop at nothing to learn every detail of Theo’s new college life, and ultimate death. But as the grieving pair grows closer, readers will question Griffin’s own version of the truth – both in terms of what he’s willing to hide, and what true love ultimately means…

image

I’m going to do you all a favour and make this review a quick one so you can get straight to one-clicking and reading this book, because hand on heart, this is one of the best books I have ever read. It’s not often at all that I deem a book so wow-able that I give it 6 stars, but History Is All You Left Me had all the wow and then some. Adam Silvera is without a doubt a mastermind at weaving incredibly emotional andunputdownable  YA reads that never leave you.

To say this book had me hooked would be an understatement. I was so engrossed in it that the world outside of it’s pages no longer existed as I read Griffin’s story. It was filled with such beautiful and yet truly heartbreaking romances, and it had me on the edge of my seat as I waited with baited breath to see it all unfold.

I really can’t express just how emotional and simply perfect this book was. I cried buckets. I laughed. I swooned. My heart broke. My heart healed. And I knew, undoubtedly, that this was a book that would stay with me forever. There are many authors out there in the world these days, but none quite like Adam Silvera.

Review – BAD MOMMY by Tarryn Fisher

TARRYN FISHER HAS A NEW BOOK OUT!!! Ok, I know, I know, it’s been out nearly two months already, but my funk wouldn’t let me read it until recently, and OMG, I loved it!! Check it out below.

image

Almost every day is a very bad day when you’re thirty, your tits are starting to sag, there are lines creeping in around your eyes, and you realize that no one would like you if they actually knew who you really were. Fig Coxbury is fed up with her life: her cheating ex-husband, the excess fat around her waist, and most of all, her loneliness.

When Fig chances upon Jolene Avery, the embodiment of everything she’s ever wanted to be, Fig befriends her out of curiosity.

Fig soon begins to emulate all aspects of Jolene’s life, because when you find someone who knows exactly who they are, you can’t help but want to be just like them.

Or in Fig’s case… become them.

image

Tarryn Fisher is one of the few authors who will automatically one-click no matter what they release. She’s a versatile author who always gives readers something fresh and new to sink their teeth into, from murdering teenage girls, to deceiving soulmates, and now, well…what can I say about Bad Mommy?

When this book first released, I bought it straight away, even knowing I was in a funk which wouldn’t let me read it. Fast forward to the end of the funk and the first book I picked up was Bad Mommy, and I couldn’t put it down! It felt so good to be so wrapped up in a story again, and Tarryn Fisher gave me one that sucked me in and refused to let me go.

I really don’t want to say too much about the story or characters because I think it would be so easy to spoil this book and its twists. What I will say, is that this story is crazy, made crazier in my eyes because I think there’s more than a hint of truth to it. As the book went on I became more and more shocked at what I read, and that final line…I kinda saw it coming, which leads me to believe even more so that some truth lies beneath the fiction.

Tarryn Fisher is an author like no other, and Bad Mommy was yet another crazy, gripping ride from the first page until the last. A definite must read!

I am a real life villain, truly. I drink sick amounts of Starbucks. Most of the time my hair smells like coffee. I was born in South Africa, and lived there for most of my childhood. I moved to Seattle just for the rain. Rome is my favorite place in the world so far, Paris comes in at a close second. I read and write more than I sleep. When I was eleven, I wrote an entire novel about runaway orphans, using only purple ink. I am addicted to Florence and the Machine and will travel to see concerts. I love scary movies and giraffes. I spend way too much time on Facebook. Meet you there?…

An explanation…

So. You may have noticed (or some of you may not) that I haven’t really been around much in the last six months or so. Over the last five years I have been a huge bookworm, just like the rest of you. Devouring books at every opportunity. Sure, I’ve encountered a few funks over the years which had me unable to read for a week or two, but nothing that another reread of UnDeniable by Madeline Sheehan couldn’t fix.

Unfortunately, last year I hit a funk which even Duece and his crew couldn’t get me out of. Neither could any of my Ultimate Authors. I wanted to read. I tried and tried but I just couldn’t find it in myself to continue on with any book. My love of books turned into a love of Netflix. Instead of binge reading books, I was binge watching shows. And I loved it. Finally watching shows everyone had been raving about. But I missed getting lost inside the pages of a book.

It took until two weeks into January (around six months into the funk) for me to finish a book. With Bad Mommy by Tarryn Fisher, I finally found my mojo. I went from one book to another, devouring every word within, and I loved every second of it. Now January has been and gone, and taken my funk right along with it, I’ll be starting back up with my blog. I won’t be trying to fill in all the blank spaces from months gone, (I didn’t read so I have nothing to fill it with) so I’ll be drawing a line from today and going back to bringing you news, reviews and giveaways!

*deep sigh* It feels good to be back.

Blog Tour: Talking As Fast As I Can by Lauren Graham

“Oy with the poodles already.”

My very favourite fast talker, Lauren Graham (AKA Lorelai Gilmore) released her memoir–Talking As Fast As I Can–this week, so I’ve teamed up with the folks over at Virago to bring you my favourite LG moment from Gilmore Girls! But before that, check out the cover and a bit about the book below.

*DISCLAIMER: this post contains spoilers for the full series and A Year In The Life*

image

In this collection of personal essays, the beloved star of Gilmore Girls and Parenthood reveals stories about life, love, and working as a woman in Hollywood—along with behind-the-scenes dispatches from the set of the new Gilmore Girls, where she plays the fast-talking Lorelai Gilmore once again.

In Talking as Fast as I Can, Lauren Graham hits pause for a moment and looks back on her life, sharing laugh-out-loud stories about growing up, starting out as an actress, and, years later, sitting in her trailer on the Parenthood set and asking herself, “Did you, um, make it?” She opens up about the challenges of being single in Hollywood (“Strangers were worried about me; that’s how long I was single!”), the time she was asked to audition her butt for a role, and her experience being a judge on Project Runway (“It’s like I had a fashion-induced blackout”).

In “What It Was Like, Part One,” Graham sits down for an epic Gilmore Girls marathon and reflects on being cast as the fast-talking Lorelai Gilmore. The essay “What It Was Like, Part Two” reveals how it felt to pick up the role again nine years later, and what doing so has meant to her.

Some more things you will learn about Lauren: She once tried to go vegan just to bond with Ellen DeGeneres, she’s aware that meeting guys at awards shows has its pitfalls (“If you’re meeting someone for the first time after three hours of hair, makeup, and styling, you’ve already set the bar too high”), and she’s a card-carrying REI shopper (“My bungee cords now earn points!”).

Including photos and excerpts from the diary Graham kept during the filming of the recent Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, this book is like a cozy night in, catching up with your best friend, laughing and swapping stories, and—of course—talking as fast as you can.

***

Now for my favourite Lorelai moment…gah!! This is so hard to choose. Gilmore Girls has been one of my favourite shows for so many years and it never fails to make me smile and giggle. I don’t actually think it’s possible to list only one, so I’m going to list a few and hope I get away with it 😉

Gilmore Girls original series

So up first, “Would you just stand still?”  When Luke and Lorelai finally, FINALLY realised they were supposed to be together and kissed on the porch. I swear the angels sang! I love these two hard, so my heart was fit to bursting when this happened.

Next up, “Rory’s going to Yale.” When Rory wanted to go to Yale but was against it because the dream–and the wall–was always Harvard, Lorelai changed the wall–and the dream–to Yale. I loved this moment so hard and it always make me really emotional whenever I watch it.

A Year In The Life

Then we have, “he was standing there with with a pretzel.” I don’t think there was a dry eye across the globe when we said goodbye to Richard Gilmore, and I’m sure we can all remember Lorelai’s awful first attempt at a best memory of her dad (I still cringe when I think about it) but the second memory, the real best memory she tells Emily over the phone, that’s one of my favourite moments from the new episodes. What she gave Emily during that call, and I think what she also gave to herself, and her fathers memory, had me fighting back tears. Such a wonderful scene.

And finally, “It’s all set.” THEY FINALLY DID IT!!!! Luke and Lorelai tied the knot in the most perfect of ceremonies (ok, minus Sookie) and I could not have been happier for Lorelai to finally get her HEA. L+L 4ever!

Review – Secret Things by Nazarea Andrews

One of my favourite authors has a new book out!! Check out Secret Things by Nazarea Andrews, book 1 in the Hollywood Secrets series!

image

Camden is on top of the world.

He’s dating his best friend and co-star. He has a top rated TV show that just got renewed for a seventh season. It’s what he’s always wanted.

And he’s fucking miserable.

Dimitri is living the life he always wanted. He and Victor, his high school boyfriend, are social media darlings. His part just got renewed on his hit TV show, and the charity foundation he co-founded is taking off. It’s everything he ever wanted.

And he’s fucking miserable.

The only time either seem happy is when they’re together. And both of them are ignoring the attraction between them. There’s too much at risk. The show, their significant others, a friendship that is more important than a quick screw.

Oh, and Camden is straight.

Right?

But attraction isn’t always easy to ignore, and a lot can happen that isn’t meant to. When one of Dimitri’s fans gets involved, both men will have to decide how much and who they want.

image

When Nazarea Andrews is releasing a new book, I rarely read the synopsis before I dive in. There are very few authors who i do this with, and I donit beause I know that what I find between the pages will be amazing, know matter what it’s about. (Let’s not forget, this is the author who had me reading and LOVING zombie books!!!)

Diving in to Secret Things, I was excited. I really do love Nazarea’s books; she has this way with her words that just whisks me away and has me falling in love with her characters, and her latest offering was no different.

Camden and Dimitri’s story was…well, somewhat of a surprise considering I hadn’t read the synopsis, haha. I absolutely loved the entire storyline though. I had those excited little butterflies in my belly when things started unraveling. I had absolutely no idea how this story would play out, and I’m obviously not going to spoil it for you guys, but oh my word!

It was all just so good!!! So many feels and laughs and sexiness…no one writes quite like Nazarea Andrews. Secret Things is a must read.
