Blog Tour: Talking As Fast As I Can by Lauren Graham

“Oy with the poodles already.”

My very favourite fast talker, Lauren Graham (AKA Lorelai Gilmore) released her memoir–Talking As Fast As I Can–this week, so I’ve teamed up with the folks over at Virago to bring you my favourite LG moment from Gilmore Girls! But before that, check out the cover and a bit about the book below.

*DISCLAIMER: this post contains spoilers for the full series and A Year In The Life*

In this collection of personal essays, the beloved star of Gilmore Girls and Parenthood reveals stories about life, love, and working as a woman in Hollywood—along with behind-the-scenes dispatches from the set of the new Gilmore Girls, where she plays the fast-talking Lorelai Gilmore once again.

In Talking as Fast as I Can, Lauren Graham hits pause for a moment and looks back on her life, sharing laugh-out-loud stories about growing up, starting out as an actress, and, years later, sitting in her trailer on the Parenthood set and asking herself, “Did you, um, make it?” She opens up about the challenges of being single in Hollywood (“Strangers were worried about me; that’s how long I was single!”), the time she was asked to audition her butt for a role, and her experience being a judge on Project Runway (“It’s like I had a fashion-induced blackout”).

In “What It Was Like, Part One,” Graham sits down for an epic Gilmore Girls marathon and reflects on being cast as the fast-talking Lorelai Gilmore. The essay “What It Was Like, Part Two” reveals how it felt to pick up the role again nine years later, and what doing so has meant to her.

Some more things you will learn about Lauren: She once tried to go vegan just to bond with Ellen DeGeneres, she’s aware that meeting guys at awards shows has its pitfalls (“If you’re meeting someone for the first time after three hours of hair, makeup, and styling, you’ve already set the bar too high”), and she’s a card-carrying REI shopper (“My bungee cords now earn points!”).

Including photos and excerpts from the diary Graham kept during the filming of the recent Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, this book is like a cozy night in, catching up with your best friend, laughing and swapping stories, and—of course—talking as fast as you can.

Now for my favourite Lorelai moment…gah!! This is so hard to choose. Gilmore Girls has been one of my favourite shows for so many years and it never fails to make me smile and giggle. I don’t actually think it’s possible to list only one, so I’m going to list a few and hope I get away with it 😉

Gilmore Girls original series

So up first, “Would you just stand still?”  When Luke and Lorelai finally, FINALLY realised they were supposed to be together and kissed on the porch. I swear the angels sang! I love these two hard, so my heart was fit to bursting when this happened.

Next up, “Rory’s going to Yale.” When Rory wanted to go to Yale but was against it because the dream–and the wall–was always Harvard, Lorelai changed the wall–and the dream–to Yale. I loved this moment so hard and it always make me really emotional whenever I watch it.

A Year In The Life

Then we have, “he was standing there with with a pretzel.” I don’t think there was a dry eye across the globe when we said goodbye to Richard Gilmore, and I’m sure we can all remember Lorelai’s awful first attempt at a best memory of her dad (I still cringe when I think about it) but the second memory, the real best memory she tells Emily over the phone, that’s one of my favourite moments from the new episodes. What she gave Emily during that call, and I think what she also gave to herself, and her fathers memory, had me fighting back tears. Such a wonderful scene.

And finally, “It’s all set.” THEY FINALLY DID IT!!!! Luke and Lorelai tied the knot in the most perfect of ceremonies (ok, minus Sookie) and I could not have been happier for Lorelai to finally get her HEA. L+L 4ever!

Review – Secret Things by Nazarea Andrews

One of my favourite authors has a new book out!! Check out Secret Things by Nazarea Andrews, book 1 in the Hollywood Secrets series!

Camden is on top of the world.

He’s dating his best friend and co-star. He has a top rated TV show that just got renewed for a seventh season. It’s what he’s always wanted.

And he’s fucking miserable.

Dimitri is living the life he always wanted. He and Victor, his high school boyfriend, are social media darlings. His part just got renewed on his hit TV show, and the charity foundation he co-founded is taking off. It’s everything he ever wanted.

And he’s fucking miserable.

The only time either seem happy is when they’re together. And both of them are ignoring the attraction between them. There’s too much at risk. The show, their significant others, a friendship that is more important than a quick screw.

Oh, and Camden is straight.

But attraction isn’t always easy to ignore, and a lot can happen that isn’t meant to. When one of Dimitri’s fans gets involved, both men will have to decide how much and who they want.

When Nazarea Andrews is releasing a new book, I rarely read the synopsis before I dive in. There are very few authors who i do this with, and I donit beause I know that what I find between the pages will be amazing, know matter what it’s about. (Let’s not forget, this is the author who had me reading and LOVING zombie books!!!)

Diving in to Secret Things, I was excited. I really do love Nazarea’s books; she has this way with her words that just whisks me away and has me falling in love with her characters, and her latest offering was no different.

Camden and Dimitri’s story was…well, somewhat of a surprise considering I hadn’t read the synopsis, haha. I absolutely loved the entire storyline though. I had those excited little butterflies in my belly when things started unraveling. I had absolutely no idea how this story would play out, and I’m obviously not going to spoil it for you guys, but oh my word!

It was all just so good!!! So many feels and laughs and sexiness…no one writes quite like Nazarea Andrews. Secret Things is a must read.

When not writing, she can most often be found driving her kids to practice and burning dinner while she reads, or binging watching TV shows on Netflix. N loves chocolate, wine, and coffee almost as much as she loves books, but not quite as much as she loves her kids. She lives in south Georgia with her husband, daughters, spoiled cat and overgrown dog. She is the author of World Without End series, Neverland Found, Edge of the Falls, and The University of Branton Series. Review – THE BANDIT by BB Reid

Did you see??? The Bandit, book #1 in The Stolen duet by BB Reid is LIVE!!! Check out my review, an excerpt, a signed giveaway, and get one-clicking!!

A missing legacy, a stolen son, and one dangerous secret changed everything for them…

I’ll never forget the night I caught her sneaking around my place. She thought she could steal from me and get away with it, but I have no intention of letting her get away at all. Mian Ross has a lesson to learn, and I’m going to be the one to teach it to her.

I’ll never forget the night I made the second biggest mistake of my life. It was supposed to be a simple job, but it quickly became so much more–one that cost my freedom and cost my son. Angel Knight became my worst nightmare… and now, he’ll never let us go.

“It’s for you.” He extended the phone, but it might as well have been a bomb.
“Take it,” he demanded through clenched teeth.
He snatched the phone back and stabbed the screen. “You’re on speaker,” he informed. There was nothing but silence while my heart pounded in my chest.
“Tsk. Tsk.”
So much for lucky breaks.
“Ever the disobedient one…” I felt my blood drain when I recognized the refined voice. It was deeper now–stronger. “Even when you’re in my house uninvited.”
“You have something that belongs to me.”
“You expect me to believe that?”
I shrugged to hide the tremble, but then remembered he couldn’t see me. “Believe what you want.”
“There are consequences to bad decisions.”
“I’m sure I don’t know what you mean.”
“But your father would, wouldn’t he?”
I sucked in a breath and tried to talk myself out of being afraid. There was no way he could know my father had anything to do with this. “My father is none of your concern.”
“Wasn’t it your father who sent you?” I didn’t answer that. I wouldn’t. “If you won’t answer, maybe I should ask him myself.”
“No!” His silence shattered my armor. “My father didn’t send me.” My voice begged him to believe me. It was only half the truth. If he had a choice, I wouldn’t be here, but I gave him none.
I waited, but only silence followed. I looked to his two henchmen who listened to our exchange with curiosity and confusion etched on their perfect faces.
“I’ll see you soon.” He didn’t say more. The line disconnected, and I was left feeling as if fainting would erase everything that just happened.

For the past year, my closest book friends (and even my mother) have been telling me that I neeeed to read BB Reid’s books, so when I saw she was releasing a new book, not related to anything she had previously written, I knew that this would be the book: my first BB read (see what I did there?)

Wow. What a freaking ride this book was. Part of me is kicking myself for not picking her books up earlier, and part of me is glad that The Bandit was my first, because seriously, wow!! This book was fantastic!! I was immediately hooked and just couldn’t get enough of Angel and Mian’s story.

The Bandit was filled with so much suspense, tension, edge of your seat action, and twists. I had no idea where the story was going which I loved!!!! It kept me gripped and desperate to keep reading. And then that ending…holy cliffhanger!!! As much as I was desperate to keep reading throughout the book, it doubled once I reached that ending. Book #2, please, BB!

Review -GRAVITY by A.B. Bloom

You guys!!! Anna Bloom is BACK with her first paranormal romance under the name AB Bloom, and it is fantastic!! Check out my review below and get one-clicking!

They are calling it the End of Days. The world is plunging into darkness, the days growing shorter and the nights longer. Meteor showers are falling to the earth and there are some who would take advantage of the growing darkness.

For sixteen-year-old Bronte Bell, her problems are closer to home. Since her birthday she’s become weaker, her bones breaking, her hair falling out and plagued with constant migraines. No one can explain why. Until a mysterious new boy arrives and tells her that everything is not as it seems. She is not what she seems.

Drawn into a war that divides the sky, Bronte is torn between her desire to save the world and her growing connection with Nick. But she will have to let go of reality as she knows it, if she is to accept her role in destiny before the Hunter, who has been tracking her since birth, finds and destroys any chance she has of making the choice which is her birthright to make.

Her destiny will change everything . . .

You guys!!! Anna Bloom is one of my favourite authors, and when she decided to branch out and write paranormal romance under a slightly altered pen-name (so people wouldn’t confuse it with her contemporary books), I was all for it. I don’t read that much PNR these days, but I’ve always enjoyed it, and I couldn’t wait to dive into Gravity.

As with all of this authors books, I just couldn’t get enough. I wanted to savour every bit of information given, and also, at the same time, I wanted to be able to read faster just so I could find out what was happening. And to say this was the authors first journey into PNR, I was seriously impressed! The storyline was great, with fab twists, and I loved the whole link to stars, I loved the characters, and boy did I swoon over Nick!

Whether you’re already a fan of Anna Bloom, or whether you enjoy paranormal romance, I would definitely suggest you give Gravity a try. Be prepared to beg the author for more the second you finish the book though after that ending… 5 well deserved stars.

Excerpt and Giveaway – WRECK by Stacey Brandon and Karen Bell

Wreck by writing duo Stacey Brandon and Karen Bell is LIVE!! I have all the details for the book below, along with an excerpt and a giveaway where you can win a signed paperback and jewellery!!!

Kyle can have almost any woman he wants… except the one he wants most. If he falls for his boss’s daughter, it could be the biggest mistake of his life. He’s made more than his fair share. It would ruin his relationship with the man he considers almost a father, and besides, she deserves someone better than him anyway.

Kinleigh knows the minute she sees the bartender in her dad’s bar that they are meant to be together. She’s heard all about his good business head, how trustworthy he is, and how much potential he has… but learning he is also the hottest man she’s ever laid eyes on had cinched the deal. She might look sweet and innocent, but looks can be deceiving. She’ll do whatever it takes to show him they belong together.

Can they learn that trusting each other is the only way to find happiness?

Or will they let prejudices destroy their lives?

“Who are you looking for?” Madison asks, as she too scans the room.

“Kyle. Have you seen him?”

“Kyle?” She looks confused and pulls me over to sit in a nearby booth. “I thought you were actively avoiding Kyle?”

“I am. I mean, I was. I mean…” I cover my face with my hands and sigh. “I don’t know what I mean.”

“Well,” she laughs. “That much is obvious. Tell me what’s going on.”

“I don’t know. I’m happy dating Jeremy!”

“Why does that sound like you are trying to convince yourself more than me?” she asks.

“Jeremy is good for me. Kyle has made it well known that he doesn’t want a relationship and I’m not going to be a hook-up, so I need to let him go, once and for all.”

“But… Well, he’s been acting weird lately. He wants to talk. And now my dad is even asking if I’ve talked with Kyle and…”

Madison cocks an eyebrow. “Ronan wants you to talk with Kyle?”

“I know! Weird, right?”

“Extremely. Maybe you should. Maybe it will be just what you need to let him go.”

I smile sadly. “Maybe so.”

“You know…” She lowers her tone, conspiratorially. “Mike and I had issues in the beginning too.”

“Really?” I settle in for a story. “You guys are perfect together! I can’t imagine problems between you two!”

“I was dating his best friend and then…”

“Excuse me!”

Madison and I both jump as we realize someone had walked all the way over to our booth without us noticing.

“We aren’t open yet,” Madison tells the woman.

“I know that,” she says as she hitches her purse strap higher on her shoulder. “I’m looking for Kyle.”

His name makes my head jerk around to face the stranger. She’s attractive with copper-streaked chestnut hair and pretty features, but there is hardness to her face that prevents her from being beautiful. Her skirt is barely long enough to cover the essentials and her white, fitted blouse has only one brave button straining to prevent her abundant chest from escaping.

“Why do you need Kyle?” I ask, too hurriedly, and I see her gaze narrow as she takes in my ponytail and pink sundress before dismissing me with a sneer.

“Who doesn’t need Kyle?” she asks with a laugh that makes acid churn in my stomach.

Madison comes to my rescue. “Well, he isn’t here yet. Care to leave a message?”

The woman drags her gaze away from me. “Sure. Tell him Tats stopped by to see him.”

“Tits? Your name is Tits?” Madison asks with a grin as she stares at the women’s chest with amusement.

“Tats! It’s short for Tatiana.” Her fury is evident, but she’s working to control it. “But tell him there’s no need to call. I’ll see him tomorrow anyway.” With that, she pivots on her dangerously high heels and leaves, not waiting for a reply.

Nausea hits me full force. I’d almost talked myself into believing that Kyle had changed and wanted to talk to me about a real future. I’m a fool.

Madison reaches across the table to squeeze my arm. “Don’t listen to her. You should still talk to Kyle.”

I laugh bitterly. “What’s the point?”

I am a real life villain, truly. I drink sick amounts of Starbucks. Most of the time my hair smells like coffee. I was born in South Africa, and lived there for most of my childhood. I moved to Seattle just for the rain. Rome is my favorite place in the world so far, Paris comes in at a close second. I read and write more than I sleep. When I was eleven, I wrote an entire novel about runaway orphans, using only purple ink. I am addicted to Florence and the Machine and will travel to see concerts. I love scary movies and giraffes. I spend way too much time on Facebook. Meet you there?…

Review – ROMAN CRAZY by Alice Clayton and Nina Bocci

The first book in The Broads Abroad series by writing duo Alice Clayton and Nina Bocci was a huge 5 star read for me! Check out my review below.

Avery Bardot steps off the plane in Rome, looking for a fresh start. She’s left behind a soon-to-be ex-husband in Boston and plans to spend the summer with her best friend Daisy, licking her wounds—and perhaps a gelato or two. But when her American-expat friend throws her a welcome party on her first night, Avery’s thrown for a loop when she sees a man she never thought she’d see again: Italian architect Marcello Bianchi.

Marcello was the man—the one who got away. And now her past is colliding with her present, a present where she should be mourning the loss of her marriage and—hey, that fettuccine is delicious! And so is Marcello…

Slipping easily into the good life of summertime in Rome, Avery spends her days exploring a city that makes art historians swoon, and her nights swooning over her unexpected what was old is new again romance. It’s heady, it’s fevered, it’s wanton, and it’s crazy. But could this really be her new life? Or is it just a temporary reprieve before returning to the land of twin-set cardigans and crustless sandwiches?

A celebration of great friendship, passionate romance, and wonderful food, Roman Crazy is a lighthearted story of second chances and living life to the fullest.

I am insanely and hopelessly in love with this book. I have such a soft spot for a sexy foreign accent, and I can’t help but swoon over characters such as Marcello from Roman Crazy. To say he was dreamy was a huge understatement; I spent the entire book with my head in the clouds, and it was bliss!!!

I immediately got caught up in Avery’s story, and I absolutely loved every step of the way! It takes two very special authors to co-write a book so flawlessly that you can’t tell where one authors scenes end and the others begin, and that’s exactly what happened in this book. It just flowed so perfectly and was filled with so much humour, heart and heat, that I couldn’t get enough.

Given the chance, I could have read about Avery, Marcello and the gang for another few hundred pages, it was just that good. And I’m not a reader who likes long books. I literally only have one (very minor) complaint, and that’s that there wasn’t an epilogue (a cracking epilogue is my favourite part of a book) set a few years in the future to see where the characters are at, but then I suspect we will be seeing more from Avery and Marcello in the follow up books in this series.

And speaking of the next books in this series…I cannot wait!!! I am so excited to dive back into this world created by Alice Clayton and Nina Bocci. Roman Crazy was one heck of an adventure.

Review – AUTHOR ANONYMOUS by EK Blaire

The book everyone has been talking about… Author Anonymous is LIVE.

author anonymous

imageA TRUE STORY told through the voice of New York Times Bestselling author E.K. Blair.

She’s an author.
She’s a mother.
She’s a wife.
She’s a fraud.

A woman marked and bound by her own deceit, this is the astounding tale of how one choice knocked her world from its axis forcing her to battle through a year of scandal and betrayal, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy.

This is an intoxicatingly risqué stand-alone true story tangled in lust, heartbreak, and contrition.

If you are an active member of the online reading community then I have no doubt you are fully aware of the buzz surrounding Author Anonymous. I have no idea where to start when it comes to this book. Admittedly, it took me a while to get into it. The first 15% did not grab my attention at all (full disclosure, I would even go as far as to say I was bored), but after that, when the real (man, how do I even describe it???) drama/craziness/truth came pouring out, that’s when I became intrigued enough to keep reading and see where the story took me.

I think it’s impossible to go into this story, knowing that it’s a true account, and not try to figure out who it is. After reading the note from Anonymous in the front of the book, I have to say, I stalked EK Blaire’s Instagram account to see if I could work out who it is (hides head in shame) I got a tad obsessed, though I’m still non-the-wiser. This is one tight-lipped secret. And. It. Was. Madness.

It was kind of like a car crash just waiting to happen. Like a domino effect, where each lie and bad choice just made the wreck so much worse, and I could not look away. In all honesty, I hated “Tori” (AKA Anonymous). It might not necessarily be her as a person, but the things she did and said, the choices she made. Or maybe it all amounts to the same thing? I don’t know. But either way, I was not a fan of who she portrayed herself to be. I can see why she would want to remain anonymous, though I have no idea why she felt the need to put this out there?

Maybe because she knew readers wouldn’t be able to resist getting a look into the real and candid world of an author who not only told her story, but also aired other peoples dirty laundry? And therefore knew she could make even more money than she does just off her own books? Because I assume she’s getting a cut of the sales considering it’s her story? And as a lot of readers will be pointing their fingers at various authors, many will come out to publically say they are not Anonymous, giving the book even more publicity.

From the side of EK Blair, I see an exciting chance to tell a sordid story of an author she admires. Have you seen her live videos and videos on her blog where she talks about this book? Her entire face lights up! You can tell she put her all into telling this story, and kind of off-topic but holy heck was this book hot?!?!?!? Now from the side of Anonymous, I see greed and a really crappy person. Sometimes, we wish for stories to be true, in this case, I wish it was fiction.

I know this is a jumble of a review, but my mind is still kind of all over the place when it comes to this book. Author Anonymous really isn’t like anything I’ve read before, and I don’t know if I’ll ever get my head around it all. It was one heck of a crazy ride, but don’t just take my word for it…

Review – FURIOUS RUSH by SC Stephens

Furious Rush by SC Stephens released earlier this year. Check out my review below!

The first book in a new series by the #1 bestselling author of the Thoughtless novels…

Mackenzie Cox has a lot to prove. Daughter of a racing legend, she is eager to show the world that she has inherited her father’s talent in the male-dominated sport of professional motorcycle racing. The last thing Kenzie needs is to be antagonized by her rival team’s newest rider, Hayden Hayes. Plucked from the world of illegal street racing, Hayden immediately gets under Kenzie’s skin. His insinuations that Kenzie is a spoiled princess who was handed her career fuels her desire to win, and much to her surprise, Kenzie soon learns she performs better when she’s racing against Hayden.

As Kenzie and Hayden push each other on the track, the electric energy between them off the track shifts into an intense–and strictly forbidden–attraction. The only rule between their two ultra-competitive teams is zero contact. Kenzie always does her best to play by the rules, but when her team slips into a financial crisis, she has no choice but to turn to Hayden for help. The tension simmers during their secret, late-night rendezvous, but Kenzie has too much to lose to give in to her desires. Especially when she begins to doubt that Hayden has completely left his street life behind…

imageThere were a lot of mixed reviews surrounding the release of this book so it took me a good while before I actually picked it up and dived in, and even then, I was nervous in case I didn’t like what I would read. It was such a great feeling to start reading and find myself swept away with the story of Kenzie and Hayden.

I think the problem most people had with this book was Kenzie; they found her to be annoying, but I don’t agree with that statement at all. She never once annoyed me, and in fact, I really liked her. I loved that she was so accomplished in something which could be considered a “boys sports” and she completely owns it. She doesn’t lose her sexiness or sassiness just because she rides a bike. If anything, to Hayden, riding a bike only amplifies her sexiness.

I also really liked Hayden. Who can resist a bad boy? And when who turns out to be not such a bad guy after all? Even better! I loved the banter and competition between Hayden and Kenzie, and it was so much fun to see their relationship develop throughout the book. I actually miss reading about them!

I wasn’t a huge fan of how the book ended. Had the final scene not happened, then yeah, I would have been really happy, and maybe even given the book an extra half a star, but I felt like it was unnecessary and only added in to cause some last minute drama and shock value. I’m guessing its set up for the next book? I don’t know, but after a great story and an almost great conclusion, I was left a little disappointed in that ending.

Overall I thought Furious Rush was a great first book in a brand new series from SC Stephens, and I look forward to the second book!
